The new experience: What to expect

Last updated 19 July 2025

When can I expect to see the changes?

We’re rolling out the new Memrise experience to existing users gradually. We currently expect to start this in August.

You’ll see the update appear in your app or on web automatically, no action needed!

Do I need to do anything to prepare?

Nope! Just keep learning as normal. We’ll remind you when it’s your turn to start using the new experience.

Can’t you share the exact date of when I’ll see the new experience?

There are millions of learners on Memrise, so we can’t give exact dates for when each account will switch to the new experience.

What’s new in the updated experience?

We’ve redesigned Memrise to get you speaking faster, with features like...

  • My Lessons: You’ll get a path built around the right kind of effort, from nailing pronunciation to building sentences to real conversations. Still powered by spaced repetition and native speaker videos, now with even more focus on speaking, not just recognising.

  • Wordlists: Say goodbye to generic lessons. Wordlists are built around your real-life goals, whether that’s travel, love, work, and everything in between.

  • My Words: Your new personal dictionary. My Words remembers everything you’ve learned, and helps you practise it, when you need it.

My Activities: Visualise your progress, so that you can easily see which area could use your focus. Your dashboard tracks what you’ve learned, heard in real content, and said out loud.

Will I lose any of my progress or learned words?

No. The words you’ve learned, the videos you’ve watched, your streak, and your place in My Journey will all stay saved.

What platforms are affected?

The new experience is coming to both mobile and web. Make sure your app is updated to the latest version to see it as soon as it’s available.

Will my subscription stay the same?

Yes. If you’re already subscribed to Memrise PRO, you’ll continue to get full access to all content and features that we offer at no extra cost.

What’s going away or changing?

To give you a simpler, more effective way to learn and speak your language, we’ve removed some features like…

  • Points: Points might feel nice, but they don’t help you speak. So we’re moving on! From now on, Memrise focuses on what really matters: how many words you’ve learned and how ready you are to use them in real life.

  • Mini-Player: The way to pick up your next activity has changed and is now integrated into My Lessons, which includes review, pronunciation practice, and sentence builder.

  • Scenarios: Scenarios has made way for Wordlists, which give you flexible, goal-based vocab built around your life.

I've still got questions. How can I raise them?

You can ask questions by emailing our Support team on cs@memrise.com.

We'll gather any frequently asked questions and add them here to this page for everyone's reference, too.
