- Your learning progress was carried over automatically to the new site

- You sign in with the same Memrise account you already use

- If you purchased a Pro subscription, it still applies there

- Course creation continued to work on the community site, so people could keep building and sharing list



The standalone site was originally meant to be a temporary home, with access first planned to
end in late 2024. That deadline was extended, and the site is still live in 2026.

In our November 2025 update, we made it clear that community-created content was not being
thrown away. The plan was to rethink it and fold it back into the main product properly, rather
than copy the old experience across. Bringing things back into the main product is a big, complex task, and provides an opportunity to do it better than before.



The 2026 update: word lists are back in the app

That rebuild has now started. We have begun moving community content into the main product as word lists, and user-created word lists have returned to the Memrise app in 2026, with roughly 800 community courses brought across as word lists in the first step of the migration.

While the old community courses were plain word lists, the new in-app word lists run on our full learning engine, providing smart repetition, native-speaker videos where available (drawn from our library of 72,000+ clips), audio from our pool of more than 611,000 recordings, and example sentences. Since the engine uses our dictionary of over 223,000 words and phrases with some 2.8 million translations, a word you add to a list will have much of its learning material already attached. You can build a list in a couple of minutes, study it like any official course, and share it so the next learner with the same goal benefits.

So, if you want to make your own vocabulary set today, the in-app word lists are the route we
are actively developing. The older community site is best thought of as the archive where your
historic courses still live.



How to find and join community courses

To reach the existing community courses archive:

 

1. Go to community-courses.memrise.com.
2. Sign in with your usual Memrise email (or Google, Facebook or Apple login).
3. Open the Courses tab at the top of your dashboard.
4. Set the language you speak under "I speak…", then pick the language or subject you want to
learn. The list refreshes to show available courses.
5. Choose a course and start learning. The course is saved to your dashboard so you can pick it
up again

A note on access: community courses are reachable through a mobile web browser, but not inside the main Memrise app. On a phone, you can add a home-screen shortcut to the site so it opens like an app



How to create your own course or word list

There are two paths, depending on your goal.

To create an in-app word list (recommended in 2026): open Memrise at app.memrise.com or in the app and create a custom word list. You can add the words you actually need, and the list  includes the support of the full learning engine. This is the feature we are actively building on.

To create a course on the community site: course creation is still available at community-
courses.memrise.com. The steps are:

6. Sign in and click the Courses tab, then Create a course
7. Give the course a name, set the language you are learning and your own language, and pick a category
8. Add words one at a time, or paste in bulk from a spreadsheet or CSV (tab or comma separated). 
9. Save. To study on the go, start the course on desktop first, then open the app and pull down your course list to sync. 

Course creation is a desktop or web job. You cannot build a course from scratch inside the mobile app. 



Login and access help
Most "I can't get in" problems come down to which login you used:

● Enter your email or username and password, then click Login.

● If you signed up with Google, Facebook or Apple, use that same button. A password won't
work with those accounts.

● Forgotten your password? Click I forgot my password, or reset it at
app.memrise.com/password/reset.

One thing that trips people up: the community courses site has its own help desk at
memrise.zendesk.com, which only covers community-courses.memrise.com. For the main app and official courses, use the help options inside the app itself.
